bowie my bouy

Today we enjoyed lots of free candy, crazy yelling people at the post office, FHE with a demonstration of Lego Alma and Amulek being saved from a tumbling crumbling Oreo prison, homemade chips & gravy, and making a groovy gingerbread house while grooving to "David Boowie" (according to nephew 9).  All in all, it was a fun and eventful day.  Here is my favorite part.

During gingerbread making, nephew 9 was decorating a tree with stars and said that it was going to be a star man.  I asked him if his star man was waiting in the sky and whether he would like to come and meet us but was too afraid he'd blow our minds.  He laughed and asked what the heck I was talking about.  So I pull up good ol' grooveshark and play Starman and tell him that it is David Bowie.  So then we all start talking about who David Bowie is. The kids confirmed that, oh yes, he was indeed the Goblin King in Labyrinth.  They next wondered:
Nephew 9: "Wasn't David Boowie also in White Christmas?"
An adult, I don't remember which: "Um, no."
Jei: "No, but that would have been pretty awesome.  I would definitely see that version."
But Bing Crosby was and he and David Boowie did sing Little Drummer Boy together, so I proceeded to play that song also. And we grooved to his Labyrinth songs and a selection of other awesome Bowie songs until our house was completed, photographed, and bedtime was initiated.  Needless to say, "David Boowie" was quite enjoyed by all.

As a side note, a somewhat near by city is called Bowie, complete with its very own Bowie University.

Tomorrow we are hoping to get some tickets for the Swedish Christmas smorgasbord that Ikea is having on Friday--we pray that they haven't sold out. Fingers crossed!

  1. Ha! What a coincidence, I was just listening to Bowie the other day and telling Vinny that he will love this music when he is older. I sing him "Dance Magic, Dance" sometimes when I'm changing his diaper. Hopefully he won't associate David Bowie with poop.
